Product Description

O'Keeffe Hand Cream For Working Hands 96g

O’Keeffe’s Working Hands is a concentrated, unscented hand cream made for extremely dry, cracked hands. It was developed for people who put their hands to work all day, such as builders, nurses, parents and beauticians, and it combines a moisture-drawing glycerin base with a protective barrier that helps keep that moisture in. This is the 96g jar, with the same non-greasy, fragrance-free formula the brand uses across its Working Hands range.

When the upper layers of the skin are damaged, they struggle to hold on to hydration, which is how dry, cracked and sore skin starts. Frequent hand washing, cold weather and physical work all make it worse. Working Hands is designed to replenish moisture and protect the skin at the same time, so you can use it as often as you need during the day. It is made for adult hands and is suitable for sensitive skin, according to the manufacturer.

Key Features:

  • Made for extremely dry, cracked hands. A highly concentrated formula aimed at the roughest, most worn skin.
  • Unscented and non-greasy. No added fragrance, so it suits people who dislike perfumed creams.
  • Draws in and seals in moisture. It replenishes hydration and forms a protective barrier over the skin.
  • Suitable for sensitive skin. The manufacturer recommends testing on a small area of skin first.
  • 96g jar. Part of a range that also includes 60g and 85g tubes and a 193g value jar.

How O’Keeffe’s Working Hands Works

Working Hands uses two actions at once. It draws moisture into the skin, and it forms a barrier on the surface that stops that moisture escaping again. That second step matters most for hands that are washed constantly, because damaged skin loses water quickly.

In general cosmetic terms, glycerin is a humectant that attracts water into the upper layers of the skin. Paraffin wax and mineral oil sit on the surface and slow water loss, and allantoin is a widely used skin-conditioning ingredient that helps soften and smooth the skin. Together they replenish dry skin and then protect it between washes, which is why the manufacturer suggests reapplying throughout the day, especially after washing your hands.

Ingredients

  • Full ingredient list (jar): Aqua, Glycerin, Stearic Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Hydroxyacetophenone, Octyldodecyl Stearate, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Paraffin Wax, Allantoin, Acrylates/Acrylamide Copolymer, Mineral Oil, Polysorbate 85
  • Fragrance: None added
  • Size: 96g jar
  • Note: The tube versions use a different ingredient list, so check your pack if you buy a different size.

How to Use

  1. Apply a small amount to clean, dry hands and rub in until absorbed. The manufacturer says a little goes a long way, so apply sparingly.
  2. Reapply throughout the day as needed, especially after washing your hands, which is when extremely dry skin benefits most from moisturising.
  3. For external use on the hands only. It is not intended for the face, and the manufacturer recommends a separate product for the body.
  4. It is formulated for adults and the manufacturer does not recommend it for children.
  5. Test a small area of skin first, particularly if you have sensitive skin.
  6. Stop using it and speak to a pharmacist or doctor if you get irritation or a reaction.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are the ingredients in O’Keeffe’s Working Hands cream?

The jar contains aqua, glycerin, stearic acid, paraffin wax, mineral oil, allantoin and a few supporting ingredients. The full list is given in the Ingredients section above. There is no added fragrance. The tube versions use a slightly different list, so check the pack for the size you buy.

2. Does O’Keeffe’s Working Hands cream really work?

It is designed to relieve extremely dry, cracked hands by drawing moisture into the skin and sealing it in. The manufacturer shows before and after photos from two weeks of use, applying the cream three times in the day and once at bedtime, and notes that results vary. It works best when applied regularly, particularly after washing your hands. If your hands stay cracked, sore or bleed despite regular use, speak to a pharmacist or doctor.

3. Does O’Keeffe’s Working Hands help eczema?

It is a moisturiser, not a treatment for eczema or any other skin condition. The manufacturer says the formula suits extremely dry, cracked skin, which can be linked to a number of skin conditions, and that it is suitable for sensitive skin. If you have eczema or another diagnosed skin condition, check with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, and follow any treatment plan you have been given.

4. Can you use O’Keeffe’s Working Hands on your face, body or feet?

No, it is made for the hands. The manufacturer says it is not tested for use on the face, and recommends a separate non-comedogenic facial moisturiser for that. For larger areas of the body it points to its Working Hands Hand and Body Lotion, and for dry soles it makes a separate product called Healthy Feet.

5. Does O’Keeffe’s Working Hands have side effects?

The manufacturer lists no specific side effects, but any skin product can cause irritation in some people. It is unscented and described as suitable for sensitive skin. Test a small area first, and stop using it and speak to a pharmacist or doctor if you notice redness, itching, burning or a rash.

6. Is O’Keeffe’s Working Hands tested on animals?

No, the manufacturer states it does not test on animals or commission others to do so. It also notes that animal testing of finished cosmetic products has been banned in the EU since 2004, with a ban on testing cosmetic ingredients from 2009.
