Product Description

Optase Moist Heat Mask | Reusable Heated Eye Mask For Dry Eyes

The Optase Moist Heat Mask is a reusable, microwave-heated eye mask for the soothing relief of dry eye, blepharitis, meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), chalazion and styes. It uses HydroBead technology, which absorbs moisture from the air and releases a natural, constant moist heat onto closed eyelids once warmed. One 25-second heat in the microwave gives one recommended 10-minute treatment.

This heatable eye mask for dry eyes is an eye mask with heat that needs no added water, only a microwave. Moist heat helps loosen the oils in the meibomian glands, the tiny glands along the eyelid edge, so the oil can flow more freely and debris along the lashes softens. Those oils help keep the tear film stable and reduce tear evaporation, which is why warmth is used for dry eye. Used as directed, the Optase eye mask is a heating mask for eyes you can use at home, alongside the advice of your optician or GP.

Key Features

  • Ready in 25 seconds: this Optase heated eye mask heats in the microwave and stays hot for about 30 minutes.
  • Moist heat from HydroBead technology: it absorbs moisture from the air, so no water needs to be added.
  • Made for lid and tear film conditions: for relief of dry eye, blepharitis, MGD, chalazion and styes.
  • Reusable and washable: hand wash it and use it again. It needs no special covers and does not develop odours.
  • Soft warming mask for eyes: soft, reinforced cotton with an adjustable strap, supplied with a protective carry pouch.

How the Optase Moist Heat Mask Works

The Optase Moist Heat Mask uses HydroBead technology to deliver moist heat to the eyelids. The beads absorb moisture from the air. When the mask is heated in the microwave, they release a natural, constant moist heat, not a dry one.

That moist heat is a form of warm compress therapy for meibomian gland dysfunction. Heat loosens the oils in the meibomian glands and lets them flow more freely across the surface of the eye. These oils help stabilise the tear film, so less of it evaporates, and the moisture helps comfort the eye and the skin around it. The manufacturer states the mask does not support the growth of bacteria or fungi and does not dry out or dissolve.

This is symptom relief, not a cure, and results vary from person to person.

What’s Included

  • 1 x Optase Moist Heat Mask (HydroBead technology, soft reinforced cotton, adjustable strap)
  • 1 x protective carry pouch

How to Use

  1. Take the mask out of the carry pouch and place it flat in the microwave.
  2. Heat it on full power for 25 seconds (800W microwave). Never heat for more than 30 seconds in total.
  3. Remove it carefully. Always touch it with your fingers first to test the temperature before putting it on closed eyes.
  4. If it is too hot, leave it for 1 minute and test again. If you need more heat, microwave for 5 more seconds, staying within the 30-second maximum.
  5. Strap it over closed eyes for 10 minutes per treatment, or as recommended by your eye care specialist.
  6. If you reuse it within 30 minutes, reduce the heating time by 10 seconds.
  7. Wash it immediately if it gets food, oil, grease or dirt on it. Hand wash only, in cold water with a mild detergent, and let it dry fully before heating again.

Safety

  • Do not share your mask with another person.
  • Do not use it if it feels too hot. Overheating can burn delicate eyelid skin.
  • If you notice any irritation, remove contact lenses and speak to your optician.
  • See your optician or GP if you have eye pain, a red eye that is getting worse, sudden changes in vision, discharge, or symptoms that do not improve.
  • There is no data confirming use in pregnancy or breastfeeding, though the manufacturer is not aware of any adverse effects. If you are unsure, ask your doctor.
  • No minimum age is stated in the manufacturer’s directions. For a child, ask an optician, GP or pharmacist first.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    1. How long do you microwave an Optase Moist Heat Mask?

Heat it for 25 seconds on full power, and never heat it for more than 30 seconds in total. Place it flat in the microwave, then test it with your fingers before putting it on closed eyes. If it is too hot, wait 1 minute and test again. If you need more warmth, add 5 seconds.

    2. Does the Optase Moist Heat Mask work for dry eyes?

It is designed to relieve the symptoms of dry eye, blepharitis and MGD with moist heat, but results vary from person to person. Warm eye masks like this one help loosen the oils in the meibomian glands, which support the tear film and reduce tear evaporation. It is not a cure, so see your optician or GP if your symptoms are persistent or getting worse.

    3. How often can you use heated eye masks for dry eyes?

The Optase directions give 10 minutes per treatment, or as recommended by your eye care specialist, and do not set a daily limit. Ask your optician, GP or pharmacist how often suits you, especially if you have blepharitis or MGD. Test the heat with your fingers every time.

    4. How do you wash and clean an Optase Moist Heat Mask?

Hand wash it in cold water with a mild detergent, and wash it straight away if it gets food, oil, grease or dirt on it. Let it dry fully before heating it again. Do not share it with another person.

    5. Can you heat an Optase Moist Heat Mask without a microwave?

No, the manufacturer’s directions describe microwave heating only. They do not cover other methods, and overheating can burn the eyelids, so use the microwave steps above rather than a kettle, oven or hot water.

    6. What are the side effects of the Optase heat mask?

The directions list no side effects, but a mask that is too hot can burn delicate eyelid skin. Test it with your fingers first. If your eyes feel irritated, stop using it, remove contact lenses and speak to your optician. See a doctor for eye pain, sudden vision changes or discharge.
