Product Description

Sudocrem Antiseptic Healing Cream 400g

Sudocrem Antiseptic Healing Cream 400g is the largest size in the range, a family-sized tub designed for households that get through this multi-purpose cream regularly rather than keeping it tucked away for occasional nappy changes. It's licensed to treat eight separate skin conditions, nappy rash, eczema, acne, cuts and grazes, minor burns, sunburn, bedsores and chilblains, which makes a single large tub genuinely useful across every member of the household, not just the youngest.

At this size, the per-gram cost works out lower than the smaller 60g and 250g tubs, so it suits anyone who already knows Sudocrem works for them and wants to avoid running out or repurchasing a small tub every few weeks. It's suitable for all ages, gentle enough to use from birth, and the same formula whether it's going in a nursery, a bathroom cabinet, or a first aid box.

Key Features:

  • Treats 8 skin conditions. One tub covers nappy rash, eczema, acne, cuts and grazes, minor burns, sunburn, bedsores and chilblains.
  • Family size, lower cost per gram. The 400g tub works out better value than buying smaller sizes repeatedly.
  • Suitable for all ages. Gentle enough to use from birth, and just as suitable for older children and adults.
  • Visible results within 24 hours. Based on a SURE study of over 2,000 respondents.
  • UK's number one nappy rash cream. A long-standing household name, trusted by parents for over 90 years.

How Sudocrem Works

Sudocrem's formula is built around three main active ingredients that work together rather than any single one doing all the work.

Zinc oxide makes up the largest proportion of the formula (15.29% w/w) and helps reduce fluid loss from the skin, supporting the skin's own barrier while it heals. Hypoallergenic lanolin acts as an emollient, softening and soothing irritated or broken skin. Benzyl alcohol, alongside benzyl benzoate and benzyl cinnamate, provides a mild local anaesthetic and antiseptic effect, which is part of why Sudocrem tends to ease discomfort as well as treat the skin condition itself.

Together, these ingredients form a protective, breathable barrier over the affected area, shielding it from further irritation (useful for nappy rash in particular) while also helping reduce redness and swelling as the skin heals underneath.

Ingredients

  • Active ingredients: Zinc oxide 15.29%, Benzyl alcohol 0.39%, Benzyl benzoate 1.02%, Benzyl cinnamate 0.15%, Lanolin (hypoallergenic) 4.02%
  • Other ingredients: Purified water, liquid paraffin, paraffin wax, beeswax, microcrystalline wax, sodium benzoate, linalyl acetate, propylene glycol, citric acid, butylated hydroxyanisole, sorbitan sesquioleate, lavender fragrance

How to Use

  1. Apply a thin layer to the affected area as often as required.
  2. Use a suitable covering where necessary, for example with nappy rash.
  3. Keep away from the eyes, nose and mouth.
  4. For external use on the skin only.
  5. This product is paraffin-based. Avoid smoking or going near naked flames, as clothing or bedding with the product dried on can catch fire easily.
  6. Keep out of the sight and reach of children when not in use.

Not suitable for: anyone with a known hypersensitivity or allergy to any of the ingredients listed above.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are the ingredients in Sudocrem?

Sudocrem's main active ingredients are zinc oxide, hypoallergenic lanolin, benzyl alcohol, benzyl benzoate and benzyl cinnamate. Zinc oxide helps protect the skin and reduce moisture loss, lanolin soothes and softens, and the benzyl-based ingredients provide a mild antiseptic and anaesthetic effect. The full ingredients list, including the cream's base and fragrance, is set out above.

2. How do you use Sudocrem?

Apply a thin layer to the affected area as often as needed, using a suitable covering where appropriate, such as with nappy rash. There's no different method for adults, children or the elderly, the same thin-layer application applies regardless of age or which of the eight licensed conditions it's being used for.

3. Is the 400g tub better value than the smaller sizes?

Yes, the 400g tub generally works out cheaper per gram than the 60g or 250g sizes. It's the better choice if Sudocrem is already a staple in your household and you'd rather buy less often, since it covers nappy rash through to minor burns, cuts and chilblains for the whole family from one tub.

4. Is Sudocrem only for babies, or can adults use it too?

Sudocrem is suitable for the whole family, not just infants. While it's best known as a nappy rash cream, it's licensed to treat eczema, acne, minor burns, sunburn, bedsores and chilblains too, all of which apply just as much to children and adults as to babies. The 400g size in particular suits households using it for more than one person or purpose.

5. How long does it take for Sudocrem to work?

Many users see visible improvement within 24 hours, based on a SURE study of over 2,000 respondents cited by the manufacturer. How quickly symptoms clear up will still depend on what's being treated and how severe it is, so persistent or worsening symptoms are worth checking with a doctor or pharmacist.

6. What should you avoid using Sudocrem on?

Avoid the eyes, nose and mouth, and don't use it if you're allergic to any of its ingredients. It's also worth knowing that Sudocrem is paraffin-based, so it's flammable on fabric. Keep away from naked flames or smoking if you've got the cream on your skin or on clothing or bedding.
