Product Description

Sudocrem Antiseptic Healing Cream 250g For Nappy Rash, Ezcema & Surface Wounds

Sudocrem Antiseptic Healing Cream 250g is the standard everyday size of this well-known multi-purpose cream, sized for a single household to keep on hand for the long haul rather than running through in a few weeks or sitting unused as a bulk spare. It's licensed to treat eight skin conditions, nappy rash, eczema, acne, cuts and grazes, minor burns, sunburn, bedsores and chilblains, so one tub covers a genuinely wide range of everyday skin complaints across the whole family.

At 250g, it strikes a practical middle ground between the smaller 60g tub, better suited to a change bag or travel kit, and the 400g family size aimed at households getting through it quickly. For most homes using Sudocrem regularly but not constantly, the 250g size is the one that tends to get used up before it's time-expired rather than left half full.

Key Features:

  • Treats 8 skin conditions. One tub for nappy rash, eczema, acne, cuts and grazes, minor burns, sunburn, bedsores and chilblains.
  • Everyday standard size. A practical middle ground between the travel-sized 60g and the bulk 400g tub.
  • Suitable for all ages. Gentle enough to use from birth, and just as suitable for older children and adults.
  • Visible results within 24 hours. Based on a SURE study of over 2,000 respondents.
  • UK's number one nappy rash cream. Trusted by parents for over 90 years.

How Sudocrem Works

Sudocrem's formula relies on a small number of active ingredients, each doing a different job rather than one ingredient doing everything.

Zinc oxide, the largest active component at 15.29% w/w, helps reduce fluid loss from the skin and supports the skin's own barrier while it repairs itself. Hypoallergenic lanolin works as an emollient, softening the skin and easing dryness or irritation. Benzyl alcohol, together with benzyl benzoate and benzyl cinnamate, gives the cream a mild local anaesthetic and antiseptic action, which is part of why it tends to ease soreness as well as treat the underlying skin condition.

Together, these ingredients create a protective, breathable layer over the affected skin, shielding it from further irritation while reducing the redness and swelling that often come with nappy rash, eczema flare-ups, minor burns and the other conditions it's licensed for.

Ingredients

  • Active ingredients: Zinc oxide 15.29%, Benzyl alcohol 0.39%, Benzyl benzoate 1.02%, Benzyl cinnamate 0.15%, Lanolin (hypoallergenic) 4.02%
  • Other ingredients: Purified water, liquid paraffin, paraffin wax, beeswax, microcrystalline wax, sodium benzoate, linalyl acetate, propylene glycol, citric acid, butylated hydroxyanisole, sorbitan sesquioleate, lavender fragrance

How to Use

  1. Apply a thin layer to the affected area as often as required.
  2. Use a suitable covering where necessary, for example with nappy rash.
  3. Keep away from the eyes, nose and mouth.
  4. For external use on the skin only.
  5. This product is paraffin-based. Avoid smoking or going near naked flames, as clothing or bedding with the product dried on can catch fire easily.
  6. Keep out of the sight and reach of children when not in use.

Not suitable for: anyone with a known hypersensitivity or allergy to any of the ingredients listed above.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Sudocrem mainly used for?

Sudocrem is licensed to treat eight skin conditions: nappy rash, eczema, acne, cuts and grazes, minor burns, sunburn, bedsores and chilblains. It's best known as a nappy rash cream, but the same formula is suitable for these other everyday skin complaints in children and adults alike.

2. Is Sudocrem safe to use on private parts, including for vulval soreness?

For infant nappy rash, yes, Sudocrem is specifically licensed for napkin area skin, which includes the genital and buttock area covered by a nappy. For adult intimate or vulval soreness, this isn't one of its licensed uses, and the fragrance and benzyl alcohol content in the formula can be more likely to irritate sensitive mucosal skin than they would ordinary skin elsewhere on the body. If you're dealing with vulval soreness or suspected vulvovaginitis, it's worth seeing a doctor or pharmacist rather than assuming a nappy rash cream is the right fit, since there may be an underlying cause that needs a different treatment.

3. How much Sudocrem should you use, and should you rub it in or leave it on?

Apply a thin layer to the affected area, as often as required, rather than a thick layer. It doesn't need to be worked in vigorously, smoothing it gently over the skin is enough, and a suitable covering can be used where appropriate, such as with nappy rash.

4. What are the alternatives to Sudocrem?

There are other zinc oxide-based barrier creams and antiseptic skin creams on the market, though their exact formulations differ from Sudocrem's. Which one suits a particular skin condition or sensitivity best can vary from person to person, so it's worth asking a pharmacist for a recommendation if Sudocrem hasn't worked well for you or you're looking for a fragrance-free alternative.

5. Is Sudocrem safe for everyday use?

Yes, Sudocrem can be used daily as needed for as long as the skin condition persists, provided you're not allergic to any of its ingredients. There's no stated limit on how long it can be used, though if a condition isn't improving or keeps coming back, it's worth getting it checked rather than continuing to self-treat indefinitely.

6. What should you avoid using Sudocrem for?

Avoid the eyes, nose and mouth, and don't use it if you know you're allergic to any of its ingredients. It's also flammable once dried onto fabric, since it's paraffin-based, so keep away from naked flames or smoking if you've got it on your skin, clothing or bedding.
